BMW M

DELEGATE TO RELIABLE HELPERS.

BMW ConnectedDrive Driver Assistance systems in the BMW M4 Convertible.

Numerous innovative technologies support you in various ways and guarantee the highest level of comfort and safety. So you can focus on one of the important things in life – carefree driving pleasure.

DRIVING ASSISTANT.

The Driving Assistant feature combines the camera-based systems Lane Departure Warning and approach control and person warning with light city braking function.
The Lane Departure Warning detects lane markings and alerts the driver to an unintentional lane change at speeds above approx. 70 km/h by means of vibrations in the steering wheel. The warning is not activated if the lane change is deliberate, that is, when the turn indicator has been activated.
Whereas the approach control warning with light city braking function detects vehicles, the person warning with light city braking function reacts to pedestrians. If a vehicle ahead brakes heavily, your BMW responds immediately if the approach control warning is activated. The system operates in steps. A warning symbol is first displayed, then the symbol begins blinking and an acoustic warning is emitted, and finally the brakes are lightly applied (when travelling at speeds under 60 km/h). The person warning operates at speeds between 10 and 60 km/h and emits a single-level warning in the event of acute danger. If the system warns of a potential collision, the brakes are simultaneously preconditioned for a faster response. In the event of an emergency, the system applies the brakes. This function can be limited by darkness and fog.

BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific function

BMW HEAD-UP DISPLAY WITH M SPECIFIX DISPLAY.

Always keep an eye on the essentials: The full-colour BMW Head-Up Display with M-specific function projects all information relevant for the journey directly into the driver's field of vision. With the press of a button, the driver can switch to the sportier M-specific display. Along with a digital speedometer, it also shows the selected gear and a multi-coloured rev counter with shift lights for determining the best time to shift. In addition, it can be used to display and operate navigation tips, Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking indicator, frequently used functions such as telephone and entertainment services (radio programmes, music titles), and information and warning alerts provided by driver assistance systems. Projections at eye-height mean that the driver can keep his or her gaze on the road. Improved safety and a unique driving experience are the result.

SPEED LIMIT INFO INCL. NO-OVERTAKING INDICATOR.

Safety first: Speed Limit Info including no-overtaking indicator shows the current speed limit in the instrument cluster, as well as information regarding no-overtaking zones. This is shown on the Info Display in the instrument cluster or in the BMW Head-Up Display. A camera integrated in the rear-view mirror detects relevant traffic signs. A control unit then processes and displays this information together with data from the navigation system. By utilising other features in the car, even variable speed limits – under wet conditions or at certain times of day, for example – can sometimes also be shown.

iDrive Touch Controller

iDRIVE TOUCH CONTROLLER.

The iDrive Touch Controller (part of Navigation System Professional) enables the Control Display to be conveniently operated with a single hand. Thanks to the touchpad integrated into the Controller, it is easy to enter such information as destinations for the navigation system in handwriting. It can be used to access and configure a wide range of functions as well as for scrolling through lists. Operation is effortless and intuitive based on the sense of touch. This makes life especially easy for the driver since it keeps distraction from traffic to an absolute minimum. All functions operated using the Controller can be viewed clearly in the Control Display.

BMW Selective Beam

BMW SELECTIVE BEAM.

BMW Selective Beam automatically adjusts the high-beam headlights according to light and traffic conditions to make sure the road is always flawlessly illuminated when driving in the dark. This also allows objects at the side of the road to be identified quicker. The system monitors the presence of oncoming traffic or vehicles in front and adjusts the high-beam lights in smooth increments to avoid dazzling other road users.

PARKING ASSISTANT.

The Parking assistant makes parking parallel to the road easier. Whether activated or not, the system measures potential spaces while driving past at a low speed (below 35 km/h) and at a maximum distance of 1.5 m from the row of parked cars. When a large enough gap has been found, the driver simply turns on the indicator and the Parking assistant takes over the steering, while the driver continues to operate the accelerator, gears and brakes. The system also gives instructions in the Control Display and additional acoustic signals. This way the driver can stay relaxed and enjoy greater safety while parking.

CAMERA SYSTEMS.

Park Distance Control, Surround View, Rear View Camera: Enjoy a clear view in the area around your vehicle when manoeuvring into parking spaces and at road exits.
The Park Distance Control (PDC) at the front and rear makes parking and manoeuvring in tight spaces easier. The proximity of obstacles is indicated acoustically, as well as visually in the Control Display.
Surround View includes the Top View, Rear View and Panorama View camera systems. Cameras in the exterior mirrors and a Rear View camera provide a 270° view around the vehicle. The Panorama View makes approaching intersections and exiting driveways safer. It shows the traffic in front of the car on the Control Display.

Active Protection

ACTIVE PROTECTION.

Active Protection is the BMW ConnectedDrive preventive occupant protection system. After the front safety belts are buckled, they are automatically pretensioned when the car starts moving. If a critical situation arises on the road, the front seat belts are reversibly pretensioned, if required and the front side windows are closed. If there are comfort seats, the front passenger seat backrest is brought to an upright position. One example of a critical situation is emergency braking. When the vehicle is fitted with approach control warning or approach control warning with light braking function, potential collisions with moving or stationary vehicles ahead can be recognised in advance (within the system’s limits). In certain accident situations, the system can bring the vehicle to a standstill without any intervention from the driver. This helps to reduce the likelihood of a follow-up collision and to minimise the damage caused by one.
